25th Annual Maritime Nets Cruisers' Party (2003)

The party was held on schedule.  Everybody seemed to be having fun.  There were no fights, no "extreme" demonstrations of love, and nobody got drunk.  We'd call that a successful party.

As is the custom, the motorhome people that show up early, have a party on "the green".  That is an area on Shelter Island Drive almost on the beach; but not quite.  They have mostly pavement; but a little strip of green grass about 20 feet wide.  That's what we call "the green".  We can park our motorhomes there and invite all our friends to join us.  That's what we did!

Tommie (KA6OAM) is usually in charge.  Luckily, she WAS this year.  When she is not in charge, things don't go quite as well.  Anyway, we had quite a good turnout and fun was had by all.  We got several pictures; so browse as you like.

So that you don't have to wait an eternity to download a bunch of pictures, we have just made links to the pictures telling what you will see if you click on the blue letters.  After you're finished viewing the picture, be sure to click your "BACK" button to get you back to where you were so you can go on and view some more pictures.

If you want to save any of these pictures to your computer for future viewing, here are the procedures:

1.  Right-click on the picture.
2.  Click on "Save Picture As".
3.  A little box appears telling you where, on your computer, it is going to put the picture; or, tell it where you want to put the picture.
4.  Click "Save".

So, sit back, relax, and click away:

All names are quoted Left to Right:

Potluck on the Green

Tommie (KA6OAM) & Steve (N6AHN) - The "ramrods" or "wagonmasters" of the whole operation.

Ralph (N6ADJ) is there to give Tommie (KA6OAM) some valuable advice.

Ilah (WA6EDG) comes along to give her 2-cents worth.

Paul (KC6VOX), famous international fisherman and chef, showed up to just watch and eat.  It was his day off.

June (xyl of KA6AXW), a superb organizer in her own right, was a busy person as well --- contributing in "every way".

Pete (KA6AXW) supervised "everybody".

Jan (WO0I) was in charge of smiling.  She smiled at everybody -- and made everybody smile.

John (KO6QO) surveilled the situation.  He didn't know whether to stay or run.  Actually, he had another committment; so he had to run.  Our loss.

Lee (NE6C) didn't know what to make of the whole deal.  He had been driving for hours and hours and hours.  But he said it was worth it.

Jerry (KD6YPB) relaxing after doing his duty -- whatever Tommie told him to do!

Betsy (xyl of KD6YPB) being shy.  Actually, she was looking down at something.  Who knows what!  We'll probably never know.

Pat & Kermit (KB5HA) relaxing.  Kermit is the REAL instigater of this whole party.  He started it 25 years ago and has continued it ever since.  He is the manager of the Mañana Net.

Ama (WB6ERQ), Linda (Ralph's daughter), and Ralph (N6ADJ)
Ralph is the manager of the Baja Net.

Denny (KE6FKU) & Daphne.  We were SO glad to see them.  Daphne had a little heart problem recently and was pronounced "OK" after a rush trip back from Tripui, Mexico.  They're on their way back to where they left off.

The Party

The Players

There was a pretty good attendance this year.  Not as many as it has been in past years; but, the "quality" was there.  Who cares about numbers anyway!  A good time was had by all.

But, if you missed the party, we missed you too.  We hope you join us next year.

Both Jerry (KE6YY) and Ralph (N6ADJ) came armed with digital cameras so we could share these pictures with you.  Hope you enjoy.

Kermit (KB5HA) is the cause of it all.  Of course, he was there first to greet everybody when they arrived.  He has been doing this for 25 years.  Doesn't seem tired of it yet.

His wife, Pat, made sure everybody signed in.  Ron (WA5OZW) is helping her at the moment.  She had lots of help during the party.

John (KO6QO) & Lee (NE6C) were sitting near the door.  We never did figure out whether they were the bouncers; or if they were just sitting there for a fast escape in case there was any trouble.

Charlie (KB6ZT) was there in flying colors.  He likes red because they made him wear khaki for so long --- with brown shoes.  Charlie is in charge of the ionosphere; so, he had a lot of explaining to do this year.

Ron (WA5OZW) & Dee are friends of Kermit and Pat.  This was their first time here.  However, they come to San Diego several times per year to sail; so, I'm sure we'll see them again next year.

Warren (W6DHX) "dark, handsome, x-rated" was there.  He was telling stories about VE3EED; but they weren't true!!!

Dottie & Freddie (KE6OA) look like newlyweds.  Well they are - - - just about - - - only 56 years!  It'll probably never last.

Bob (KE6FXU) wasn't having any fun at all.

Craig (W6MCD) kept looking for something to fix.  He loves to make things work right; and he's good at it, too.  He makes antennas work really good.

Jack (VE3EED) & Jan (WO0I) seem to be smiling about something - - who knows what?  They must know; but they're not telling.

Thurman (N6QX) & Sue (N6IWX).  What's that stuff they're drinking?

Roy (KR6RG) having a serious moment.  At least there's one serious person there.  It didn't last long, though.  Just for the picture.

Bev & Al (WA6EFT) are sure smiling.  I know why, too.  They're thinking about all the gas they saved by not bringing their motorhome.  But, the rest of us know how much fun you missed!

Steve (N6AHN) & Tommie (KA6OAM).  Look at that California surfer-girl smile of hers!  They took off in their motorhome the next day for 2 months.  Where?  Thataway.  If you want to know where they are, you can check this web page each day.  It was right above where you clicked to get here. Happy Wanderers

Ilah (WA6EDG) & Jerry (KE6YY).  Jerry is not smiling because he is studying Ralph's photography techniques.

Ama (WB6ERQ) & Ralph (N6ADJ).  Ralph is trying desperately to sell his motorhome before he gets to be a fleet-owner.  They are picking up their new one in a couple of months from the factory in Indiana.

Al (WA6EFT) & Steve (N6AHN).  Al is giving Steve some pointers for his upcoming motorhome trip.

Ed (KK6GO) & Sue (KO6DV).  Ed loves to be the first check-in on the Baja Net.  He wasn't first to the party, though.

Rod (W6MWB) & John (KD6PGC) are busy solving all the world's problems.

Bob (N6MYS) & Barbara (N6MYT).  Bob is recovering from hip surgery.  He seemed to be getting along pretty well.

Jan (N6USE) & Don (K6PGT) are from Shaver Lake, up in the mountains East of Fresno.  He's been on the Baja Net (especially the aftermath) for years.  It was nice to meet them after all these years.

The Bar was a beautiful sight to some of us - - even if the drinks were expensive.

Ralph (N6ADJ) caught in the act.  He was taking Jerry's (KE6YY) picture.
